Poem for people who have lost their beloved pets
« on: February 04, 2010, 11:18:26 AM »
                                                                           IF IT SHOULD BE

IF IT SHOULD BE THAT I GROW FRAIL AND WEAK
AND PAIN SHOULD KEEP ME FROM MY SLEEP
THEN YOU MUST DO WHAT MUST BE DONE
FOR THIS LAST BATTLE CANT BE WON

YOU WILL BE SAD, I UNDERSTAND
DONT LET YOUR GRIEF THEN STAY YOUR HAND
FOR THIS DAY, MORE THAN ALL THE REST
YOUR LOVE AND FREINDSHIP STAND THE TEST

WE,VE HAD SO MANY HAPPY YEARS
WHAT IS TO COME, CAN HAVE NO FEARS
YOU,D NOT WANT ME TO SUFFER, SO
WHEN THE TIME COMES, PLEASE LET ME GO

TAKE ME WHERE, MY NEEDS THEY,LL TEND
PLEASE STAY WITH ME UNTIL THE END
AND HOLD ME TIGHT AND TALK TO ME
UNTIL MY EYES NO LONGER SEE

I KNOW IN TIME, YOU TO WILL SEE
IT IS A KINDNESS YOU DO TO ME
ALTHOUGH MY TAIL, ITS LAST HAS WAVED
FROM PAIN AND SUFFERING I HAVE BEEN SAVED

PLEASE DONT GRIEVE THAT IT SHOULD BE YOU
WHO HAS TO DECIDE, THIS THING TO DO
WE,VE BEEN SO CLOSE WE TWO, THESE YEARS
DONT LET YOUR HEART HOLD ANY TEARS.
LOTS OF LOVE....BINKY, DILLON AND CHARLIE..XXX

Gosh,  how true this poem is.  My dog Mac was put to sleep at the end of Jan 2010 and I am slowly getting over our loss, but this poem is so touching that I confess I am again bawling my eyes out.  I have printed and will share with my family.  Thanks for sharing this beautiful poem.

I'm sure the poem is touching but I have to admit I dont want to read it- everytime I hear something about a dog dying or something like that I tear over.. Losing a dog is tough but its tougher when its before their time I still tear over stuff like this..:( just totally not strong enough to read it!

I had to get my Molder put to sleep 2 days before christmas as she was into her last few hours and in pain and the vet gave the poem to me after he done the deed and i thought it was lovely so i thought i would share it on here. I work in the vets so i printed loads of copies of that one and Rainbow Bridge and when anyones pet dies at our place i always give them out to the clients or post them to them with a pet sympathy card. I find them quite comforting.
